A monastery

Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery
Singapore

IMGP5147
It hasn't been long since I discovered that it is easier for me to remember what the name of the place/object was by photographing a sign. =D Good thing I did that for this place, because, oh my, the name is too long! All I could remember was that it was a very nice and big monastery... It's the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery! Or, as I found out from wikipedia, Bright Hill Temple.

IMGP5146
This is the Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall, one of the newer buildings in the temple. It houses a very large bronze Buddha at the top floor. This monastery is really big!

Here's the statue of Buddha at the top floor of Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall. Impressive, right? The pictures below the statue is a little view of the tops of the building around the temple.

The temple grounds is beautiful! I know! I keep repeating myself! Well, for a little more info about the monastery, here's wikipedia to the rescue! The temple was built in the beginning as a place of practice to propagate the Dharma and to provide lodging for monks, as there were many Buddhist monks who came to Singapore without lodging. It's the largest Buddhist monastery in Singapore. For more info about the monastery, here's a link to their website.

One last photo that I wanted to share. Just don't ask me what the writing there means! I have no clue at all! =)

Our Next stop was Sembawang Park for lunch. I'm not sure if the park has some historical significance or what, but hey, the views there are still nice. Hee-hee!

IMGP5137
The signs I saw in the park was new to me and kind of hilarious... =D I'm sure you can guess what the signs were saying! The messages on the signs were very understandable!

Here's another one of elderly people crossing! =)

Our next stop was the Kranji War Memorial, I believe a memorial for world war 2 heroes in Singapore. From wikipedia:
"Dedicated to the men and women from United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Malaya, the Netherlands and New Zealand who died defending Singapore and Malaya against the invading Japanese forces during World War II, it comprises the War Graves, the Memorial Walls, the State Cemetery, and the Military Graves."

The memorial is beautiful with nice views around. They picked a very nice place for the memorial, quiet, tranquil, peaceful.

IMGP5093
Our guide told us a lot of Australian tourists visit the Kranji War Memorial to pay their respects to the fallen heroes. We found the tomb of the unknown Australian soldier! Well, our guide helped point it out to us... =)

I didn't realize it too at the time, but the buildings in the horizon in this photo is actually Johor Bahru, Malaysia! The memorial is nice and I think is worth a visit if ever you're in this neck of the woods.
